Charlene, my bestie and partner in crime, has been an avid rock hound since our days in Tennessee, which seems like an eternity ago. When she left Tennessee, she left behind her rock hounding partner and her interest waned for a while. A recent visit back down south and a visit to her rock hounding friend, however, rekindled her love of rocks.
Hence the newly formed Rock Room. There are ways to collect rocks without going out and finding them yourself. And frankly, both her and her rock collecting friend have hit an age where they are over the sun beating down on them while they climb over treacherous terrain in hopes of finding that perfect specimen. Not to mention getting ran off of locations by folks who decide they really don’t want you looking for rocks after all.
At any rate, she has been getting some really cool rocks of late, so she mentioned that she needed some kind of stands to hold up the rocks for better displaying. My first thought was that she needed to buy some plate stands; my second thought was that I should just find a model on thingieverse.com and print her some stands. The video below shows off not only many of her latest rock acquisitions, but also the stands that I printed to display them.
These stands were printed on two different printers. The purple ones were printed on the Original Prusa iMK2 with a non-brand name filament I bought off of eBay. The white or translucent ones were printed on the PrintrBot Metal Plus with ZYLTech filament that I bought on eBay because of the free shipping. I have to say, I LOVE the look of the translucent filament. I’m now on my second roll. It’s some good stuff.
